Net-zero insurance targets

Addressing climate change is a priority at Swiss Re, and most of our sustainability targets focus on the decarbonisation of the company and our value chain. This supports our aim to reach net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our entire business by 2050.

Advancing the net-zero transition is the first ambition of our Group Sustainability Strategy. With our ESG Risk Framework we seek to identify, assess and address Sustainability risks, including those related to GHG emissions and related infrastructure. The Oil and Gas Policy and the Thermal Coal Policy are the most important ones in the context of the transition to net-zero.

Swiss Re's net-zero insurance targets are published in the Swiss Re Sustainability Report 2023, where the first three underwrting targets listed specifically refer to our net-zero targets.

These targets, and their approaches and definitions, are formulated based on currently available information. As this is a highly dynamic area, we will continue to assess our targets, approaches and definitions in light of developments, including with respect to the actions of clents, businesses and governments, which are not within our control.
