About the Role

As a Senior Actuary, you'll be at the forefront of monitoring and protecting the long-term value of our in-force Life & Health portfolio in the Americas. You'll leverage your expertise in risk assessment, market knowledge, and data-based analytics to identify opportunities and challenges. Your strong business drive and execution power will be essential as you collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive contractual management actions and ensure optimal portfolio performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and identify portfolio risks proactively to protect the value of in-force business, applying your risk assessment and risk appetite knowledge

  • Facilitate Smart Circles and WISER initiatives to ensure effective information flow between cross-functional teams and the L&H Executive Committee, demonstrating your consulting skills and Swiss Re Spirit

  • Drive contractual management actions to safeguard portfolio value, utilizing your actuarial-specific contractual knowledge and negotiation skills

  • Identify and provide transparency on portfolio characteristics to equip Market Units and In-force Optimization teams for favorable treaty negotiations, showcasing your structuring capabilities

  • Collaborate with Reserving and Global Portfolio Monitoring teams to clearly communicate IFRS earnings and balance sheet information, applying your financial market and economic knowledge

  • Support the Chief Underwriting Officer in Business Review Committee decision-making through applied intellect and presentation skills

  • Ensure proper on-boarding of new business with consideration of risk profiles and materiality, following guidelines and risk governance framework

  • Facilitate activities that enhance the quality and value of IFRS earnings through data-based analytics and insights

  • Work closely with leadership teams to steer the composition of the Global L&H portfolio, demonstrating project management skills and business acumen

  • Recommend options for in-force negotiations with clients using your LoB-specific actuarial product knowledge and market insights

About the Team

The Portfolio Monitoring & Insights team is dedicated to monitoring and protecting the long-term value of the in-force Life & Health portfolio in the Americas. Our mandate includes identifying and managing portfolio risks, facilitating cross-functional communication, driving contractual management actions, and providing transparency on portfolio characteristics to support strategic decision-making across the organization.

About You

You're a strategic thinker with exceptional analytical abilities and a collaborative approach. You thrive in a dynamic environment where you can apply your technical expertise while developing innovative solutions. Your strong communication skills enable you to translate complex actuarial concepts into actionable business insights, and you're passionate about developing both yourself and others. You demonstrate digital agility and embrace the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance analytical capabilities.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Qualified actuary (FSA, Fellow or Fellowship-Level Certification from the Society of Actuaries, or other similar credential) with at least 15 years of L&H valuation or pricing experience in reinsurance, primary insurance, or insurance consultancy

  • Solid understanding of costing methods, tools, standards and processes specific to Life & Health business in the Americas market

  • Strong record of collaboration with and influencing other leaders at the executive level, demonstrating excellent people management skills

  • Commercial mindset with ability to balance technically-correct solutions with win-win outcomes for both the company and clients

  • Exceptional leadership qualities for managing both direct teams and cross-functional collaborations

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Experience with portfolio optimization and management in changing market conditions

  • Knowledge of IFRS 17 implementation and its impact on Life & Health business

  • Background in treaty negotiations and client relationship management

  • Experience with digital tools and analytics for portfolio monitoring, including usage of artificial intelligence and machine learning

  • Legal knowledge relevant to insurance contracts and regulations

  • International experience or knowledge of multiple markets within the Americas region

The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week
