Senior Claims Expert (Hybrid work model)

We have a great opportunity for a high-performing Senior Claims Expert to manage a complex portfolio of direct insurance and reinsurance claims involving asbestos, environmental, health hazard, abuse and other latent exposures, both domestic and foreign. The successful candidate will have an aptitude to develop and execute strategies to effectively and efficiently manage complex, multi-party claims and litigation.
About the Role
In this role you will provide meaningful case and coverage analysis for insurance policies and reinsurance contracts and establishment of appropriate case reserves. As well as assist in formulating, developing and implementing reinsurance account management and disposition strategy.
You will also collaborate with senior management, underwriting, client markets and actuarial to provide valuable insights on portfolio and identify and provide analysis of trends and potential large exposures to internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities also include:
- Manage resolution of multi-line direct insurance and reinsurance claims for 50+ Swiss Re entities on a variety of legacy paper including primary, umbrella and excess CGL, D&O, Work Comp/Part B, Marine, ISO, Manuscript, London Forms, Bermuda Forms – domestic and foreign – and many types of claims.
- Craft language for Coverage in Place agreements, Tolling agreements, Mediation/Arbitration briefs and other agreements.
- Create and manage cost-effective litigation budgets.
- Author timely, appropriate positional coverage letters to policyholders and reinsureds/cedents while protecting company's interests and reputation.
- Formulate and execute case management and litigation strategies.
- Comply with company reporting, risk, and governance requirements and all legal and regulatory requirements – domestic and foreign (LPE).
- Act as designated 30(b)6 witness for purposes of testifying (depositions, affidavits, trials).
- Participate in audits and provide insight on appropriate reserving to assist deal team in pricing.

Additional requirements include:
- 10+ years of claims experience, including significant experience in handling latent direct insurance claims.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with capability of communicating with policyholders, counsel, mediators, and senior management.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively triage many competing interests.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
- Technology proficiency – Word, Excel, various claims systems, and the ability and willingness to learn new systems.
- Ability to identify areas of improvement, and a passion for implementing them.
Note: Employees who live near a Swiss Re office location are required to be office-based employees. This role is an office-based hybrid role with flexibility to work from home several days a week along with going into the office at least 50% of the week.
