Senior Application Engineer

About the role
We seek an experienced application engineer to join us in Solvency Solutions. This role presents a thrilling opportunity for the selected candidate to engage in the development of mission-critical applications. With the initiation of a highly ambitious project within the Solvency II domain, we look forward to a path of exciting and innovative developments.
The primary objective of this position is to work in close collaboration with the Technical Lead on the conceptualization and development of new applications and components, as well as on the maintenance of existing business applications. Furthermore, the individual in this role will be instrumental in the quarterly closing process. This role merges architectural and design duties, business software development, and third-level operational support.
About the team
Our team develops, extends and maintains business applications and processes supporting our Group Finance Operations and Group Tax colleagues. We are an international team, with colleagues predominately based in Bratislava, but also Zürich. We collaborate very closely not only with Solvency 2 Actuaries, SST Reporting finance colleagues but also with other Finance InfoTech colleagues that provide and source our data and host processes on our platform.
Your responsibilities include:
- Design, develop and maintain code in Group Finance Platform and Solvency Solutions
- Actively contribute to the team's project delivery activities, focusing on engineering excellence to meet project timelines and objectives
- Provide essential technical support during financial closing activities, ensuring all technical requirements are met efficiently
- Conduct comprehensive code reviews to uphold code quality, consistency with coding standards, and maintainability across the project
- Utilize your extensive experience and technical expertise to identify and resolve critical issues promptly, preventing recurrence and ensuring system stability
- Continuously identify and implement improvements in engineering support processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness

Following skills and experiences are desired:
- Proven expertise in software development, with a strong foundation in Java and Spring Boot, proficiency in NodeJS, and familiarity with leading UI frameworks like Angular. Skilled in database management systems (DBMS) such as PostgreSQL, with experience deploying applications on cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure.
- Proficient in relational database management, including data manipulation language (DML), data definition language (DDL), database modelling, and performance tuning
- Skilled in designing and implementing RESTful APIs, with a focus on best practices and industry standards.
- Experienced in modern software architecture principles, leveraging both synchronous and asynchronous integration technologies to build scalable and efficient systems.
- Strong analytical skills, address problems in a structured way, joining your own creative ideas and those of others
- Demonstrated history of delivering robust and maintainable solutions, with a focus on long-term sustainability and adaptability.
- Proficient in utilizing Azure DevOps for project management, code versioning, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
- Extensive professional experience in developing and supporting Java applications, gained within large-scale corporate environments and through collaboration with globally distributed teams.
For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between EUR 2,700 and EUR 4,400 per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialization, skills and experience.
In the situation where you significantly exceed the requirements, the offered salary may be above the advertised range.
In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for additional rewards and benefits including an attractive performance-based bonus.
